Na(y)shville is a groovy little town
28 May 2009

Hello,

We’re officially back on the road again. We just left Na(y)shville and are heading for Newport, Kentucky. It was great to finally be in Nashville. I’ve wanted to go there ever since I was a child, ever since my grandmother got me hooked on Patsy Cline.
I didn’t get a chance to see too many of the sites but I did take a drive down Music City Row, eat Soul food at Arnold’s and witness a spectacular thunderstorm which isn’t too bad going. Next time I’d definitely like to visit the Country music hall of fame, The Grand Ole Opry(I wonder if it’s anything like Glasgow’s GOO?) and Loretta Lynn’s house.
The show last night was really great and the Nashville kids were very welcoming. I think we were all still a little jet lagged but they didn’t seem to mind too much. One of them even gave me a Collage of the band. Thanks Ashley for that.

In Nashville I mainly listened to :
1. To beat the devil – Kris Kristofferson
2. Nashville is a groovy little town – Tom T Hall
3. Wake up baby – Sonny boy Williamson
4. My Babe – Ricky Nelson
5. The Bully – Richard Swift
6. There’s a ghost in my house -R.Dean Taylor
7. Walkin’ after midnight – Patsy Cline
8. Nobody wants a lonely heart – Arthur Russell
9. Rave on – Buddy Holly
10. Lover Please – Billy Swan

It’s great that you are performing in this country. Sadly I will not be able to see you when you head up north. I was hoping to see you in either NY or Montreal. oh well I will have to continue to enjoy your music vie iPod. Thanks to all of you for your great music which I came across accidentally about a month ago.

Great show tonight at the Southgate House. Thank you so much for swinging through town again!

Would it be possible to post the set list for tonight’s show?

Getting hooked on Patsy Cline is a good thing! Ever think about doing one of her songs at one of your live shows? How about in Seattle next Saturday? :-)

Tracyanne: We drove from Memphis and took time off from our day jobs to see/hear you guys in Nashville. The show was spectacular. An amazing experience. I really think you should do “The Sweetest Thing” live, though. I love that song. One more thing… I was at a local grocery store in midtown Memphis this afternoon and as I was strolling down the aisle pushing my cart I heard some familiar strains over the in-store sound system… it was “French Navy”. That made my day. Thanks so much for the magnificent music. Have a great tour and please come to Memphis again sometime. You guys take care and have fun.

awww…darn it! If only I’d known. the best place in Nashville is the hilbilly place on the main street (layla’s??) near tootsies..

There is a jus’ darlin’ band who play there and despite being super competant the singer lillie mae (probably about 19 now but I saw her sing like a tortured 40 year old when she was 17) has a gorgeous voice but the whole band do!! they are really nice people too.,. and I did vow to get them to the UK sometime – They started playing as silk and saddle (I think) when they were about 6 you know and can play anybody out of the water!

Currently they are known as Jypsi http://www.myspace.com/jypsi and they do mountain harmonies that pull your heart right out and play with it in front of you (a bit like you did in Leamington!)

Goddam that lillie mae was cute too..

You were great on the Tonight Show… or was it Late Night, I just know I turned the TV on and there you were… Nashville is indeed quite groovy. Come back soon, the show was great! And who are the other two guys touring with you?
